Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Social Health Atlas of Australia 2023 (PHIDU)

The Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Social Health Atlas of Australia includes demographic and social indicators, as well as indicators of health status and health service use. The data are presented by Indigenous Area (IARE).

Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) Annual Information Statements (AIS)

The Annual Information Statement is an online form that every charity must submit to the ACNC each year. It asks for information about a charity’s activities and programs, operations and finances.

Australia’s Children – Health (AIHW)

The Australia’s Children – Health dataset covers various indicators relating to health, development and wellbeing at the national level.

Australian Digital Inclusion Index 

The Australian Digital Inclusion Index uses survey data to measure digital inclusion across three dimensions of Access, Affordability and Digital Ability. This data is available at the Greater Capital City Statistical Area (GCCSA) and State/Territory level.

Australian Early Development Census (AEDC)
The AEDC is a nationwide data collection of early childhood development at the time children commence their first year of full-time school. The AEDC highlights what is working well and what needs to be improved or developed to support children and their families by providing evidence to support health, education and community policy and planning.

Australian Government Grants 

The Australian Government Grants dataset tracks the number and the value of grants that have been awarded, at the postcode level. The dataset also tracks the category, category group and selection process of the grant awarded. The grant approval, start and end dates are available at the month level.

Australian Immunisation Register
This collection provides childhood immunisation coverage data for all of Australia by Statistical Areas Level 3 (SA3).

Census: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Profiles 2021 (ABS)
These tables show Census characteristics of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples; persons, families and dwellings. Some tables include comparisons with non-Indigenous people.

Census: General Community Profiles 2021 (ABS)
The General Community Profile contains a series of tables showing the characteristics of persons, families and dwellings in a selected geographic area.

Census: Time Series Profiles 2006-2011-2016-2021 (ABS)
The Time Series Profile presents data from four Censuses, based on the geographical boundaries for the most recent of the three, allowing meaningful comparisons to be made.

Counts of Australian Businesses, Including Entries and Exits (ABS 8165)
Counts of Australian Businesses, including Entries and Exits (ABS 8165) presents counts of actively trading businesses in the market sector of the Australian economy. Statistics in this release are sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics Business Register (ABSBR).

Crime Statistics for Australian Capital Territory 

Each quarter, ACT Policing issues crime statistics illustrating the offences reported or becoming known in suburbs across Canberra.

Crime Statistics for South Australia
Crime Statistics for SA presents information about the incidence of crimes against the person and crimes against property in South Australian Postal Areas for the previous month.

Criminal Incidents (Victoria Crime Statistics Agency)
Criminal Incidents (Victoria Crime Statistics Agency) presents detailed crime statistics on the number of recorded offences, alleged offender incidents, victim reports and family incidents in Victoria, at the Local Government Area (LGA) level.

Data by Region 2011,2016-21 (ABS)
Data by Region 2011, 2016-21 presents various data for 2011, 2016-21 and Census data for 2011, 2016 and 2021. Data is sourced from a wide variety of collections, both ABS and non-ABS. When analysing these statistics, care needs to be taken as time periods, definitions, methodologies, scope and coverage can differ across collections.

Department of Social Services (DSS) Payment Data
Department of Social Services (DSS) Payment Data presents counts of and then number of payments made by selected payment type, including Age Pension, Commonwealth Rent Assistance, Newstart and Youth Allowance.

Heartbeat of Rural Australia

In September 2021, the Federation for Rural Regional Renewal (FRRR) commissioned the Heartbeat of Rural Australia study, exploring how not-for-profits and community groups in remote, rural and regional Australia are faring, in the wake of nearly two years of constant disruptions.

Maternal & Child Health Services Annual Reports (MCH) – Victoria
The MCH Service works with families to care for babies and young children. It is a free service for all Victorian families. The MCH Service Annual Reports include area level data on enrolments, Key Ages & Stages consultations and participation rates, reasons for counselling and referral due to child, mother or family health and wellbeing, and breastfeeding rates.

Mortality Over Regions and Time (MORT)

MORT books are Excel workbooks that contain recent mortality data for specific geographical areas (including LGA) of Australia, sourced from the AIHW National Mortality Database. The workbooks also present the leading 20 causes of death by sex for specific geographical areas of Australia.


NAPLAN Results by gender, Indigenous status, language background other than English status, geolocation (state/territory), parental occupation and parental education at each year level and for each domain of the test.

National Core Maternity Indicators

The National Core Maternity Indicators (NCMI) present information on measures of clinical activity and outcomes. These indicators cover data for the majority of women who gave birth in Australia from 2004 to 2021 and are grouped into 3 broad topic areas – antenatal period, labour and birth, and birth outcomes.

National Perinatal Data Collection 2021 (AIHW)

The National Perinatal Data Collection (NPDC) is a national population-based cross-sectional collection of data on pregnancy and childbirth. The data are based on births reported to the perinatal data collection in each state and territory in Australia. Midwives and other birth attendants, using information obtained from mothers and from hospital or other records, complete notification forms for each birth.

Northern Territory Crime Statistics

The Northern Territory crime statistics are prepared by the Department of the Attorney-General and Justice using data recorded by the Northern Territory Police. These statistics are updated monthly and are available at the SA2 level.

QLD Recorded Crime by Offence

The QLD Recorded Crime by Offence dataset are statistical releases relating to crime reported to or detected by police in Queensland, available at the LGA level. These include counts and rates of reported and cleared offences, victims of offences against the person, and alleged offenders.

Recorded Crime by Offence in NSW (BOCSAR)
Recorded Crime by Offence in NSW (BOCSAR) presents monthly data on all criminal incidents recorded by NSW Police. Postal Area and Suburb data is released annually.

Regional Population by Age and Sex (ABS 3235)
Regional Population by Age and Sex (ABS 3235) presents estimates of the resident population of Statistical Areas Levels 2 to 4 (SA2s – SA4s) and Greater Capital City Statistical Areas (GCCSAs) of Australia as at 30 June by age and sex.

Small Area Labour Markets (Unemployment Rates)
The Australian Bureau of Statistics produces quarterly regional estimates of unemployment and the unemployment rate at the Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) and Local Government Area (LGA) level. This collection  has been augmented with monthly results from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) catalogue Labour Force, Australia, Detailed (catalogue 6291.0.55) for Greater Capital City Statistical Areas (GCCSA), States and Territories and Australia overall.

Social Health Atlases of Australia (PHIDU)

The Social Health Atlases of Australia include demographic and social indicators, as well as indicators of health status and health service use. This data is available at the LGA level.

Socio-Economic Indexes For Areas (SEIFA) 2021
SEIFA is an Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) product that ranks areas in Australia according to relative socio-economic advantage and disadvantage. The indexes are based on information from the five-yearly Census of Population and Housing.

Specialist Homelessness Services

The Specialist Homelessness Services dataset is an aggregate of data from over 1,700 specialist homelessness services agencies across Australia. This dataset contains monthly data on the number of clients supported throughout each month since July 2017, by state, age and sex. Additional breakdowns by specific target groups, the reasons clients sought assistance, homelessness status, clients receiving financial support for short-term accommodation and nights in short-term accommodation are also included.

Victorian Incidents of Family Violence

The Victorian Incidents of Family Violence dataset includes the number and rate of incidents of family violence attributed to definite or possible alcohol consumption, available at the Local Government Area (LGA) level. Breakdowns by age range and sex are also available.

Western Australia Crime Statistics

The WA Crime Statistics dataset are monthly statistical releases relating to crime reported to or detected by police in Western Australia, available at the district level.

Child Birth Weight (AIHW)

The Child Birth Weight dataset contains the number and percentage of mothers by the birth weight and Indigenous status of their baby. This data is available at the national level.

Child and Maternal Health in 2014–2016 (AIHW)

Four key maternal and child health indicators have been released in the Child and Maternal Health 2014-2016 dataset — smoking during pregnancy, child and infant mortality, low birthweight babies, and antenatal visits in the first trimester of pregnancy. Indicators are reported nationally, by SA4 and SA3 areas.

Victorian Child and Adolescent Monitoring System (VCAMS)
The Victorian Child and Adolescent Monitoring System (VCAMS) tracks and measures children and young people’s health, wellbeing, safety, learning and development outcomes as identified in the VCAMS Outcomes Framework including 35 outcomes and 150 indicators. This data is not available beyond 2019, as the Victorian Child and Adolescent Monitoring System is no longer collating this data.

Working Population Profiles 2016 (ABS) 

The Working Population Profile (WPP) dataset provides information on key Census characteristics of employed persons. This data is based on where people work. The Working Population Profile (WPP) dataset contains classifications about Labour Force, Occupation and Industry, Income and Method of Travel. The WPP is available down to the SA2 and LGA level.
