I’m always excited to share impact-focused opportunities to harness new capital with data-led storytelling, particularly as we kick-off a new financial year.

It was a pleasure to speak at the Benefolk Foundation’s Income Diversification webinar series last week and demonstrate the impact Seer’s data platform is generating for our customers, communities and the bottom-line

While there’s no doubt that Australia’s economy (and beyond) is grappling with changes and contractions, there is–quite literally–a wealth of opportunity that can be captured with evidence-based storytelling.

Let’s look at the numbers:

  • By 2050, our intergenerational wealth transfer data shows Australia will transfer $2.6 trillion of wealth.
  • Each year, $13.1 billion is invested in annual donations.
  • Exponential growth in the Impact Investing Market is forecast to reach $500 billion by 2025.

The key to unlocking wealth and creative impact, is to focus on having the right data to suit your work.

Knowing where you want to be is one thing; having the evidence to guide your direction, measure success, scale and grow is all part of your unique storytelling.

This is what the Seer data platform delivers.

The first question…

Customers often ask me – “which indicators should I use?”.

I understand. Data for impact reporting can be daunting. To make sure our customers get what they need, I ask– “why do you want to measure impact and what is it that you want measured?”.

Each and every client has unique needs, ambitions, stories and goals. But there’s at least one thing they have in common; data-led opportunities for income diversification, evidence to support impactful storytelling and scope to scale and grow.

A great example of this, in in Far West NSW. Maranguka Community Hub, based in Bourke, is the first and largest Justice Reinvestment site in Australia.

Maranguka Initiative is the largest data-driven, community-led project in Australia and has resulted in reduced crime, particularly among young people, increased safety, millions of dollars in justice savings, and new economic investment for Bourke.

Central to this work is data access, sharing and storytelling guided by the principles of Indigenous Data Sovereignty and the leadership of Maranguka and the Bourke Tribal Council.

Seer Data has worked in in partnership with Maranguka for 6 years to support the initiative by automating data access and data sharing from 15 data contributors into the Maranguka data collection. Data contributors include NSW Health, NSW Education, NSW Communities & Justice, NSW Police, Department of Social Services as well as services and not-for-profits operating in Bourke.

Maragnuka’s data-led income diversification results

  • $5 million+ in justice savings
  • Significant diversification of funding from philanthropy, NSW and Commonwealth governments

In harnessing the power of data, Maranguka has helped to create a landmark example of community leadership and collaboration and influenced new Justice Reinvestment programs (NSW Government $30 million and Commonwealth $80 million).
