AI is moving quickly. Every organisation is being asked, in one way or another, how it will respond.

What it will adopt and how fast it can move. But speed isn’t the real question. In fact, it can create risk that impacts trust. The real question is: what are you building that speed on top of?

At Seer Data, we started years ago building these foundations. Which has meant before introducing AI into the platform, we focused on the foundations that make it worthy of trust – not just functional, but responsible in the contexts it operates within.

We call it ‘trust by design’ and it comes down to three things: data governance, First Nations Data Sovereignty, and AI assurance.

These foundations enable us to move carefully, and still make progress, and provide the safety for our customers to use AI.

Trust is designed, not declared

We’ve aligned our approach with the Australian Government’s Voluntary AI Safety Standard, adopting all 10 guardrails. We’re also working toward ISO/IEC 42001 certification, which defines how AI systems are governed with consistency and accountability.

They shape how we think, build, and act – this matters most in the contexts we work in.

What we’re building

With those foundations in place we were able to introduce AI into the platform. We’re using AI to help surface patterns:

  • make sense of a lot of data for place based work
  • analyse community voice and stories for impact.

Why this takes time

There’s a temptation to treat AI as something that can summarise anything, instantly. But when you’re working with complex, real-world data, an output that is fast but slightly inaccurate doesn’t just reduce usefulness – it reduces trust.

Applying the same thinking to ourselves

We’ve approached AI internally in the same way. The result is meaningful efficiency, yes. But AI doesn’t replace thinking.

Why this matters

The environments we work in require trust. That trust comes from knowing:

  • how data is governed
  • how insight is formed
  • how ownership and control of data is managed
  • how decisions are made with data
  • has a human leading the decision making.

We’ve translated the 10 Voluntary AI Assurance guardrails into plain language for NFPs to implement safe and ethical use of AI. Register for access now using the form.
